Behavior Assistant

The Behavior Assistant shall promote and model approved behavior management strategies and interventions at all times and assist all Linwood staff in learning and applying these strategies and techniques.
He/she must be energetic, enthusiastic, patient, understanding and tolerant.
The Behavior Assistant shall work cooperatively with all staff in addressing the physical, social-emotional, and behavioral needs of the students and will be assigned duties and task related to supporting classrooms' needs, which directly impact students' success.
The Behavior Assistant must have the capability of implementing physical interventions with the entire student population (ages 5-21) to maintain the safety of the student and others.
Essential Duties and
Responsibilities:
CommunicationCommunicate effectively and professionally with:
Students All school staff Supervisors Parents/Caregivers Local School Representatives Other visitors to the school Behavior Management Supervise and assist the students with transitions, community outings, meals, vocational opportunities, and classroom participation Monitor the use of restraint in accordance with COMAR regulations and Professional Crisis Management (PCM) Complete and maintain accurate documentation related to the use of exclusion, restraint, and/or seclusion Correctly secure and monitor students utilizing seclusion rooms to ensure that compliance with all COMAR regulations are met Assist the Behavior Specialist(s) with planning, developing, and implementing the IEP and/or BIP in accordance with curriculum Assist the Behavior Specialist(s) in providing support and guidance to the students to ensure the following:
That the students are engaged in meaningful activities that address the goals in their IEPs and/or BIPs That the rights of each student are protected Collaboration/Coordination Actively provide quality services to students and parents Interact with and participate in consultations with supervisors and specialists, as appropriate, in order to assist in the implementation of the students' IEPs and/or BIPs Implement and monitor student Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) and communicate information regarding students' plans to team members as needed Assist with organization of activities throughout the day (lunch time staff coverage, field trips, ) Attend and participate in meetings in order to facilitate comprehensive program planning for students Classroom Management Proactively provide clear instructions, guidance and feedback to staff in a timely manner Provide high level of direct, proactive support to classrooms Work directly in classroom's to develop rapport with students and gain knowledge of students' behavior and needs Escort students needing one-to-one supervision between classes and closely monitor students to ensure safety and program efficacy are maintained at all times Provide supervision and support to students during non-classroom times (bus arrival/dismissal, field trips, transition periods and lunch time) Assist in the management of behavior(s) to help facilitate an optimal classroom experience for all students Other Duties &
Responsibilities:
Under the direction of a supervisor, will assist in the management of behaviors asspecified in Linwood's Student Behavior Interventions Policy and COMAR 13.

This includes the use of approved techniques after all positive behavior interventions have been exhausted and may incorporate physical interventions that ensure the safety of the student and others.
May require temporary work in classrooms as a substitute, as May perform other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications (Education, Experience, Skills):
High School Diploma or equivalency Must be at least 21 years old Must have at least 2 years' experience AA degree preferred Work requires knowledge in behavior management techniques and methodologies in ABA, and special education teaching techniques, normally acquired from working one to two years in related field Work requires substantial interpersonal skills sufficient to work with a wide range of students and staff under various circumstances requiring patience, understanding, and flexibility Must successfully complete the training and maintain certification in Professional Crisis Management (PCM), which includes the management of behaviors in crisis or emergency situations.
This can be obtained on site after employment Work requires analytical abilities and organizational skills sufficient to assist collection and tabulation of data as needed Must possess a skillset that includes the ability to interface in a professional manner with Linwood staff, parents, school system personnel and other professionals High quality oral, written and professional skills Linwood Center currently offers the following benefits to eligible employees:
